Advanced DBT Skills Group

A 10-week group for DBT Skills Groups graduates

Next group starting Thursday, April 18, 2024. Registration is open until April 14, 2024.

What is the Advanced DBT Skills Group?

The Advanced DBT Skills Group program is specifically designed for Emotion Regulation Skills Group graduates who want ongoing support for their DBT practice.

The Advanced DBT Skills Group dives deeper into using the skills and knowledge gained from one of our DBT-informed Emotion Regulation Skills Groups. This group provides opportunities to continue learning and applying additional skills to your life and unique situations. Drawing from the foundational skills previously learned, this group will take a closer look at making the skills and concepts work more effectively for you while learning a few new skills along the way.

It is important to note that you will not receive full, comprehensive DBT treatment by attending this course. Full DBT treatment consists of weekly individual DBT therapy sessions, weekly DBT skills training group sessions for 24 weeks, 24/7 access to an individual therapist by phone for skills coaching, and therapists who participate in weekly case consultation. This course is designed for Emotion Regulation Skills Group graduates and will provide opportunities to practice and build mastery in using the DBT skills.

What is the group format?

The Advanced DBT Skills Group is a closed group consisting of 10 participants who are 18 years of age or older. It runs for 10 weeks, each session 90 minutes in length, and is facilitated by Zahra Domingo (Registered Psychologist) who is trained in DBT.

Each session will begin with a mindfulness practice, followed by member check-ins, setting an agenda that will be determined by the needs of the group members (reviewing a specific skill or skills, problem-solving, seeking validation etc.), each member establishing and committing to work on specific goals before the next group and finally winding group down with a mindfulness practice.

What will I learn?

This group will review the four DBT modules (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness), and selected skills, giving participants time to reflect on and discuss the challenges of using skills in difficult moments.

This group is designed to help reinforce continued practice and mastery of the DBT skills and provide a supportive atmosphere where members can work together.

What does the group cost?

The total cost for the Emotion Regulation Skills Group is $1100, which includes the 10 90-minute sessions and all other group materials including a workbook that will be yours to keep.

The fee for this group may be covered in whole or part by your private health insurance/employee benefits plan. Please note that obtaining reimbursement from an insurance company is the responsibility of each client. You are encouraged to contact your insurance provider directly for details of your coverage, to verify that group therapy services will be covered by your policy, and any conditions of this coverage.

This is a closed group that will not accept new registrants after the start date. We require an $100 deposit to hold your spot in the group and this is refundable, minus $35 for administrative fees, up to 1 week before the start of the group. The remaining fees may be paid in full at the start of the group or in weekly instalments of $100 per 90-minute session.

What if I need to miss a group?

Because so much information is covered in each group session, regular and consistent attendance is strongly recommended. You may still participate in the Advanced DBT Skills Group even if you know you will be absent for one or more sessions. Please note that the full fee for the group will still apply in such cases.

How do I sign up?

Starting Thursday, April 18, 2024 this group will run for 10 weeks from 6:00pm-7:30pm.
