Rebecca Townsley

M.A, Registered Psychologist

I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I believe we're all striving to create a meaningful, values-aligned life. In our work together, we'll start by learning who you are and what matters to you. I take a trauma-informed, collaborative approach — together, we'll identify your goals and figure out what works best to help you reach them.

Who I Work With

I enjoy working with people navigating life or identity transitions — career changes, life stage transitions, exploring sexual identity, or relationship changes. Having spent the better part of a decade working with survivors of intimate partner violence, I understand the role confusion that can accompany a big life change. People moving into a new phase of life often experience grief, anger, shame, or other difficult emotions. Together, we'll explore how your past experiences may be shaping your understanding of the change, and work to build meaning and hope for the future.

My background in the trauma field means I have a particular affinity for working with social workers, nurses, paramedics, and first responders, who often carry heavy burdens in service of our community. I also enjoy working with adults navigating late-diagnosed ADHD or autism, especially women learning to integrate this into their identity.

How We'll Work Together

I frequently use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to address traumatic incidents and emotions that feel "stuck." Much of my work is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a third-wave cognitive-behavioral approach focused on bringing value and meaning into your life while addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, and difficult thoughts or emotions. I also draw on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I enjoy incorporating visual interventions into our sessions — we might create art, use visual charts, map out difficult decisions, or bring in other visuals to gain a clearer understanding of what you're facing.

My Hope for Our Work Together

At the end of the day, therapy is about building a relationship with another human who understands that life can be messy. I hope we can walk that path together — to find joy, meaning, and maybe even laugh at the messy bits along the way. I look forward to hearing your story.

Rebecca is currently offering in-person and online appointments.

Please note that online therapy is only available for individuals living within the province of Alberta
