Autism Assessments for Adults
At Edgar Psychological, we provide comprehensive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for adults who are wondering whether autism may help explain some of their long-standing experiences, challenges, and strengths.
An adult autism assessment can provide a greater understanding of how you experience social communication, relationships, sensory information, routines, emotions, and everyday life. For some people, receiving an autism diagnosis can help make sense of experiences that have been difficult to understand or explain, while also identifying areas of strength and strategies that may support day-to-day functioning.
Whether you have wondered about autism for many years or have only recently begun considering it, an assessment can provide a structured and individualized understanding of your experiences.
What the Assessment Process Looks Like:
Our adult autism assessment is completed over several appointments. The assessment process is designed to gather information about your developmental history, current functioning, strengths, and areas of difficulty. It also provides time for psychological testing, interpretation of results, and discussion of recommendations.
The process begins with a clinical interview (approximately 80 minutes) to learn more about your background, developmental history, and reasons you are seeking an assessment. A parent or family member may be invited to provide additional information about early development.
During the assessment data intake meeting (approximately 80 minutes) you will complete psychological testing including the Autism Diagnostic Observation, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and assessment measures based on your individual circumstances. Additional measures may be included when appropriate to help clarify other factors that may be contributing to your experiences.
Once all the information has been reviewed and integrated, you will attend a debrief session (approximately 80 minutes). During this session we will discuss the results of the assessment, review whether diagnostic criteria are met, and go over any recommendations for home, work, or additional support.
A comprehensive written report summarizing the findings and recommendations is provided following the assessment.
What is the cost of an ASD assessment:
The total cost of an assessment is dependent upon the type of assessment tool used and the number of tools required. Your assessing psychologist will be able to provide a close estimate of cost prior to conducting the assessment. Below is an estimated cost for the assessment:
ASD assessment (adult only) - estimated cost of $2,572.50
Psychological assessment may be covered in whole or in part by your employee health benefits plan or through other health insurance/extended health care coverage.
Payment is taken after each assessment appointment.
You will receive a receipt, which you can submit for reimbursement from your health insurance/benefits provider.
Fees for psychological services can be claimed under a tax-deductible health service on your income tax return.
