Carmen Ross

M.A., Registered Psychologist

I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. The primary focus of my practice is on complex, developmental, and/or relational trauma. Many of my clients have experienced prenatal trauma, childhood abuse and/or neglect, attachment disruptions (e.g., adoption, foster care), relationship betrayal, narcissistic abuse, and/or religious trauma. I also work with clients experiencing a range of mental health concerns and life challenges (e.g., anxiety, grief, emotional difficulties, transitions, stressors, etc.).

I am particularly passionate about working with adolescents and young adults (ages 11-25) because I genuinely like who they are. As Fredrik Backman wrote, they are “the best kind of human.” I also enjoy working with parents, couples, and individual adults. My clients come from a range of cultural intersections and minority populations. I am privileged to work with members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities; I am also a NIHB provider. My clients can trust me to offer post-colonial, justice-oriented, and diversity-affirming care.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship and the human witness of the therapist are themselves a primary intervention. I practice therapy as my authentic human self; I am attentive to my nervous system and intuition, and attuned to my client’s nervous system and communications. My work with clients is not just what we talk about, but also what happens in the room between us. My therapeutic approach is person-centred, trauma informed, intersubjective, and wholistic. In terms of specific frameworks, I incorporate attachment theory, depth psychology, emotionally-focused therapy, neuropsychology, polyvagal theory, psychodynamic theory, somatic therapy, and systemic therapy.

I love my work and consider it a privilege to be with my clients as they come to know and care for themselves as relational beings and as individuals who belong, most importantly, to themselves.

Carmen is currently offering in-person and online appointments.

Please note that online therapy is only available for individuals living within the province of Alberta.
