McKenzie Shimko
M.C., Registered Provisional Psychologist
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I aim to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where we can explore your experiences, thoughts, and feelings at a pace that suits you. Grounded in curiosity and collaboration, my therapeutic approach is guided by evidence-based theories to support your journey toward healing and growth. My role as a therapist is to support you in uncovering your strengths and navigating the complexities of your experiences. I approach each session with empathy and openness, fostering a space where you can feel seen and heard.
My integrative approach combines various therapeutic techniques to create a personalized experience for each client. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Solution-Focused Therapy, with an Internal-Family systems (IFS) informed approach depending on your needs and preferences. This flexibility allows us to work collaboratively, focusing on what resonates most with you and empowers you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery. I enjoy and am passionate about supporting post-secondary students and young adults as they journey through a formative time in life. I also support individual adults and teens (16+) on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), academic and workplace stress, life transitions and emotional dysregulation.
The first step in starting your therapeutic journey can often be the most challenging, and I commend your courage in taking it. I am honoured to walk alongside you on this journey toward mental wellness, meaningful change, and healing.
McKenzie is currently offering in-person and online appointments.
Please note that online therapy is only available for individuals living within the province of Alberta.
