Changeways Group for Depression

Do you feel sad, worthless or guilty most of the time? Have you lost interest or pleasure in activities you once enjoyed? Would you like to learn what you can do to feel better?  

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. 

Fortunately, it is also treatable.  

The Changeways Core Program a widely-used group depression treatment protocol.  This evidence-based program is designed for adults coping with the symptoms of depression. It is a 9-week, evidence based, educational program informed by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) designed to help participants expand their understanding of the signs, symptoms and causes of depression. In this therapeutic group, members will also develop more adaptive strategies to cope with and overcome depressive symptoms.

What will I learn? In the Changeways group you will learn about the connection between thoughts, actions and feelings, and how changing one of these can generate a positive shift for all three. You will learn how to set reasonable, attainable goals which will increase your confidence and motivation. You will also work toward building a sustainable lifestyle, with a focus on stress management, behavioural activation and improving your social interaction skills - all skills that will help you build self-confidence and move toward feeling better. Finally, you’ll learn the skills to prevent further difficulties with depression, and tips on how to manage negative thoughts should they arise again.
